Lost Valley 2009
July 18th – 25th
Troop 86 Camp Log
Sunday,
7/19/09
Rained a bit last night, woke up @ 6:30 am,
will be going to Sacrament meeting at 8:00, President Beck, the
Y/M’s General President, will be speaking
We left the church at 11:00 and didn’t get here
till 5. Had some car problems and that delayed us a bit.
We had an “OK” sleep and the bugs are really
annoying me!
Lunch was pretty good … the patches are
starting to annoy me though … I need the teal! Pretty Patch.
I did a carwash for THIS! And I’m sad cause I’m
not able to spend time with Loney :(
Today we did Church activities, we had
Sacrament and had lessons.
I’m writing in orange, Rebellion!
Great Day! Learned a lot from the boys. They
surprise me at time J
Sunday was okay, didn’t enjoy wearing class A
the whole time and the neckerchiefs are annoying me, however, I did
manage to obtain almost a complete set of patches! Sacrament was
good, however, I “accidentally” fell asleep. The Duty to God classes
we took were organized horribly. I ended up with the deacon’s group
and we had to travel from our dining hall to Irvine, the other
camp’s dining hall and surprise, we were lost til the last class.
Monday,
7/20/09
Had a Great Night Sleep. Camp T Shirts “Yee
pee” J
Don’t Dehydrate! One thing they need is more
sleep/nap time! Everything else is fine mostly.
I’m beginning to wonder why this is called
camping. It’s mostly do as they say and you can leave in a week.
Hopefully.
Monday got a complete set of patches!!! Now if
only San Diego will come out with one. I’ve enjoyed all my merit
badges so far except wilderness survival. Hopefully that will get
better. I’m going to the Indian Lore/Archaeology overnighter,
hopefully that’ll be fun.
Just got all 13 patches today. Plus 2 other
staff patches. We also traded cards which I got a few of them. Some
cards are easy to get, some are more rare.
The camp staff is not really prepared and bugs
are annoying.
Trading patches and cards is hard to do, since
everyone already has most of them.
Today was hard finding my classes and it was
very hot.
Tuesday,
7/21/09
Sitting in our camp, all the boys at their
classes, no one else around …. Priceless. Blue Jays keeping me
company, a cool drink and some crackers, that’s all I need. All the
boys know where their classes are. Their tents are clean and neat!
We have a great group of boys in our ward and scout troop and I’m
very proud of each one of them.
It’s Tuesday
J That means only 4 more
days. Yesness.
Ahh, swimming is therapeutic…I feel soo much
better now. Yay! Blah! Extreme happinessness.
I had fun trying to earn all my badges today,
but there are some really annoying scouts in 3 of my classes. Ryan
and Brendan think they’re annoying, too.
Today was much better because I knew where to
go and I could get there faster.
I have yet to have a good night sleep so far.
All three leaders in my first three classes were 20 minutes late.
OK, well, I am off to horsemanship.
Alright, I finally taught my troop the two
games I learned at Indian Lore tonight. I think that people had a
lot of fun. Yipee! Also at wilderness survival, kids paid attention
so we actually accomplished something.
Wednesday,
7/22/09
Another day of Polar Bear. It was ok but
sticking my head in the water was hard. And the secret to staying
warm is to NOT take a shower B 4.
Big Pine Campground scores another perfect
40/40 in campsite inspection. Troop 86 rocks the camping world!!!
We smell funny.
We are going on an overnighter for wilderness
survival. Hope we can survive!
Okay, so at wilderness survival, Me, Whitebread
and Rye built a shelter that we have to sleep in tonight, but Rye is
thinking of backing out. Also, the counselor for Indian Lore is a
great artist and he draws various characters from comics or movies.
He sold me three for five dollars. One has the Union Jack, lego two
face, Daredevil. They were drawn on fobs.
Today was very good going to classes.
Thursday,
7/23/09
Just completed polar bear day 3, can’t wait to
finish my merit badge classes.
Polar Bear @ 6:00 am. 58 degrees outside temp.
Invigorating. Refreshing. Vortex of Cold. Actually having nice
weather, not as hot as I expected. Had waffles for breakfast, very
good. Our campsite inspection scored our third consecutive perfect
score, 40/40. That will get us released early tonight for dinner.
Got stung by a bee for the First time
L Fortunately, I didn’t
go into shock because I’m writing this. Also, no more classes.
I waz L8 30 mins to swimin and had a fun time
with close on in duh pool. Still hate camp.
I SURVIVED! Yeah, I had about the best night’s
sleep ever in the world’s best makeshift shelter.
Today was really nice and I got stuff for my
family.
Not only did Bryan survive the overnighter, I
did too!!! Now…it was a good shelter even if in the middle of the
night a group of kids threw a rock, breaking a beam…We made some
mid-night repairs needless to say but survived. You know, I’m
actually glad to sleep in my tent tonight. Showered, assembly, great
breakfast and the most important, Finished all Merit Badges.
Awesome Day, sad to be going home in 2 days. It
was great with everyone. We as Troop 86 rock.
J
The funnest time I had was Rifle Shooting.
Soda and clothes don’t go together. I just
realized that they were freshly washed.
L
Friday,
7/24/09
I FINISHED POLAR BEAR so I’ll get a patch soon
and I finished all of my merit badges.
I am so glad I finished Polar Bear and my merit
badges
Everything is drawing to a close here at lost
valley we go home tomorrow.
I am a success at life! Yay! Now I’m going to
buy a ham radio.
Summer Camp is drawing to a close
L Our scouts have earned
a ton of merit badges. This afternoon we will be participating in
the Strength for Youth games, then the closing carnival. Boys have
done a GREAT job.
Camp, Camp, Camp…:/
The end … The bitter sweet end. Well, all I can
say is it has been a great week, tons of fun and tons of laughs. The
staff is great and if I play my cards right maybe I can be one next
summer. Well, Goodbye!!!
We survived.
Last Word:
Lost Valley was the first long term summer camp
for four of our scouts, and they did a great job. In spite of very
hot weather, dust and long distances between classes, our whole
troop of eight boys had a great time and lived the Scout Oath and
Law. Getting up at 5:45 in the morning, standing in assemblies and
in lines at the mess hall, running to classes to be on time even if
the instructor was late, all the boys did their best to have a fun
time at camp. During the week we had various duties to perform as a
troop and those were taken care of, well done. Even cleaning out the
bathroom and showers at the pool. After a long day of merit badge
classes, our evenings were spent attending staff shows, enjoying
quite time, playing checkers/chess, or playing new games the boys
learned in their classes. We closed with scripture study,
testimonies, and thorns and roses. Our eight scouts earned a total
of 35 merit badges, which included: swimming, archaeology, Indian
lore, rifle shooting, horsemanship, first aid, environmental science
(one of their favorites), pottery, camping, wilderness survival and
a surprise badge, Radio. Great work Ryan, Brendan, Adam, Bryan,
Nick, Jonathan, Steven and Eric! Troop 86! Cougars!
